POSTING DAILY ON SOCIAL MEDIA: WHY IT’S SMARTER THAN MOST BUSINESS OWNERS REALISE
Why most business owner never consider posting daily on social media
Before sharing why posting daily on social is a smarter than most business owners realise I want to talk about why most business owners never consider posting daily on social media. Many business owners aren’t even considering posting daily for a number of reasons.
Reason 1: Think it will take too much time
Creating a post on social media takes time and if you know how much time it takes you create one social media post then times that by 7 you might be left thinking “I don’t have that much time”. But it wouldn’t take you that much time. When you create more content you’ll actually spend less time creating each post for a numbers of reasons.
Reason 2: Don’t have that many ideas
A business owner might think they have the time, but they don’t have enough ideas. If creating content can be a struggle at times then committing to posting daily might sound like your worse nightmare, but the most the posts the easier ideas come, especially when you have a content strategy.
Reason 3: You’ve heard before to focus on quality not quantity and you can’t see how you could maintain your current quality when posting more
This is especially for the business owner who wants to be a perfectionist on social media. If you spend ages creating a lovely graphic, or a fantastic video then the thought of creating 7 posts per week may make you question how someone can still do that to a high standard. The advice to focus on quality not quantity probably wasn’t aimed at you. That was aimed at people who were churning out any old rubbish in the first place. And the reality is as you’ll see social media is a numbers game. Quantity does matter.
Maybe you resonate with one, two or all three of those reasons for not thinking about posting daily. If so, it makes total sense, but posting daily on social media is a good business move. It is smarter than most business owners realise and here’s why.
Why posting daily on social media is a smart move
#1 – It reduces decision fatigue
As a business owner, and as a person, there are so many decisions you have to make on a daily basis. Each decision takes precious energy and willpower. As the day goes on, you are likely to make worse and worse decisions. Therefore, it makes sense to remove unnecessary decisions. Committing to posting daily on social media means you never have to ask the question “Should I post today?”. Instead, you know you have to post every day and you can simply focus on what you need to post.
#2 – Enables you to do more testing and gain real marketing insight
By increasing the volume of content you are producing you’ll be able to run more tests and gain more insight into what is and isn’t working. For example, if you are posting 3 times a week, it will take 7 weeks for you to post 21 posts. Whereas if you post 7 times a week, it will take 3 weeks for you to post 21 posts. You’ll have the amount of time it takes for you to get those posts out and analyse how they perform. This enables you to be able to see what works and then create more content using that knowledge.
More volume, which gives you more real marketing insight, is powerful with all forms of marketing. That’s why business owners will work with marketing consultants ang agencies. Whereas a business owner can only see what is happening in their business, marketing agencies and consultants have a wider set of reference points and marketing insight. They can see how marketing is working across all of their clients and use that insight to help create stronger marketing campaigns, plans and strategies.
Having more real-time marketing insight is useful with all forms of marketing, but it is especially important with social media marketing due to how fast social media changes. What is working in social media right now will be different to what is working in a few months time. So having a wider volume of content going out, and analysing how it performs is key.
| BROADEN YOUR MARKETING INSIGHT – JOIN A MARKETING COMMUNITY WHERE EVERYONE IS POSTING DAILY

#3 – It takes the pressure of everything post having to be fantastic
When you only post a few times a weeks there can be a lot of pressure for the post to work. Depending on how you are using social media it might be that:
- You are using social media for awareness and you want to create a social media post that goes viral and introduces lots of new people to your business
- You are using social media for engagement and you want a post that gets people commenting, DMing and saving
- You are using social media for conversion and you want people clicking the link to buy, fill in an application form, or booking a sales call.
Let’s say you are posting 3 times a week and each week you want to create a social media post for each stage of the buyer journey. Well, if that post doesn’t perform that means you’re having to wait a whole week before having an opportunity to publish that type of post again. Whereas if you are posting daily then you have multiple posts per week for each stage of the buyer journey.
#4 It positions you as the authority
To seen as an authority in something, whether it be in an industry, in your specialism, or a combination you’ve got to make lots of content about it. The days of being one of the only people talking about X, Y or Z online are long gone. There are likely to be many people creating content online about the same thing as you. And for you to be seen as a leader or an authority in your space you’ll need to have a mass of content. If you are consistent with your content and post daily on social media then it will help to position you as an authority. Again this doesn’t have to be through just your social media content. You absolutely can use long-form content (and I highly recommend that) to reinforce your authority in an area. But there is no denying posting daily on social media will help to position you as an authority.
#5 – It will help you to create sales faster
It takes multiple interactions with a brand or business before someone buys. Depending on the report you read the number of interactions requires can vary but it is often 10+. We all know that only a small percentage of your social media followers will see any one post. So in this instance, social media really is a numbers game. If 5% of your followers see a post, it could take 20 posts before someone sees 1 post. It could mean you have to post 200 times for them to see 10 posts. If you are posting 3 times per week thats over a year before you’d have posted 200 times, whereas if you post daily, that wouldn’t take you 7 months.
Now you might be thinking 7 months to make a sale, that’s a long time. Which is why I don’t recommend you rely only on social media. Ideally, you want to have a multi-channel marketing approach. For many online service providers, the combination of having a website, and then using email marketing, social media marketing and long-form content is a powerful combination. This will mean that someone could binge a few podcast episodes or blog posts, see a few social media posts and read a few emails to hit their 10 touch points.

Getting started with posting daily on social media
As you can see there is a lot to be gained from posting daily on social media so if you’re thinking it’s something you’d like to do in your business how do you get started.
I’ve been posting daily on social media for years and help other coaches, consultants and online service providers to do the same. Here’s what you’ll need to get in places to successful start posting daily on social media.
1 – Social Media Content Strategy
This isn’t posting on social media for fun, this is for business, so you need a social media content strategy. Whilst creating your strategy you’ll answer questions such as:
- Why are your posting on social media?
- What is the desired outcome(s)?
- Where does your social media sit in the buyer journey?
- What will your content pillars be?
- What does success look like?
2 – Content Creation Process
Once you’ve got a social media content strategy you’ll want to work out what’s the best way for you to create content. This has personally looked different for me over the years and I’ve created numerous difference processes for clients. For example, there were times when I had a full-time job where posting daily meant I would create a post and post in real time. Often this meant making the post on the train whilst commuting to work. Then when I went full-time in my business I switched to a weekly focus. I posted a weekly blog and would use that as the focus theme for the week so I could plan out, create and schedule my content for the week. Currently I usually have a focus for the whole month, which is directly aligned with what I’m selling, and then I will plan and create on a weekly basis.
You might like the idea of carving out a small amount of time every day to create or your might prefer having a bigger block of time once a week where you can batch and schedule. The way you create the content doesn’t matter, but finding a process that you can stick to is important.
3 – Accountability
Posting daily on social media is not easy. Whilst I have done it for many years I know I’m in the minority, and especially whilst you are building the habit getting accountability can make a massive difference. If you are working with a marketing or business coach/mentor then this is definitely something you can ask for accountability for. You could also join a business group or community that focuses around online marketing and being consistent with showing up online for your business.
