The Great Lock In - Business Owner’s Edition

All over social media, people are talking about the Great Lock In, and whilst I’m all about self-improvement and changing your life, I thought it would be fun to think about applying the same principle but focused on changing your business. Keep on reading to find out about how you can do the Great Lock In: Business Owner’s Edition.

What is The Great Lock In?

The Great Lock In is a self-improvement movement that became popular on social media in 2025 and is back in 2026. Having loosely involved from the “Winter Arc” movement the idea is that summer is over and it’s time to reset and refocus. It runs from the 1st of September to the 31st of December. With 4 months, 120ish days, left of the year the idea is that is enough time to be super intentional about your goals, build fantastic habits and end the year strong.

The way people LOCK IN looks different, but some very popular activities include:

  • Exercise / move your body every day
  • Drink 2+ litres of water
  • Get 7-9 hours of sleep
  • Limit social media scrolling
  • Eat clean
  • No alcohol
  • Read 10 pages daily

As a self-improvement lover, I thoroughly enjoy seeing people getting ready to lock in. So much can happen in 4 months when you are intentional. But where as most of the Great Lock In content was around health and fitness I thought it would be fun (yes I have a warped idea of fun) to have a business owner edition. So here goes.

THE GREAT LOCK IN (1ST SEPTEMBER TO 31ST DECEMBER): BUSINESS OWNER’S EDITION

Check your finances

The first thing you can commit to is to check your finances daily. If you are a business owner that isn’t currently checking your finances daily this might seem a bit extreme. Maybe you are checking once a week or just check when a bank notification goes off, it’s time to up your game.

Checking your bank account daily will help you to really understand what is coming in and going out of your business. When you are looking once a week, or worse, every few weeks, you can see a list of transactions and have a quick scan but miss stuff. It’s how businesses end up spending more money than they need to without realising. When you look daily, you’ll have a better understanding of your cashflow, which is important too. And if you want to go a step further, you can track your sales too.

Promote your business

Next you can commit to doing one thing, every working day, to promote your business. I have been very specific about this. This isn’t a ‘post daily on social media’. If you are new to me, Charelle Griffith, you’ll can find me on LinkedIn or  Instagram where I’ve posted daily for years. But social media is just one way to promote your business. There are so many other ways and a multi-channel approach is better for your business. So the goal is to do something every day.

That could be…

  • Send out an email newsletter
  • Post on social media
  • Speak on stage
  • Run adverts
  • Sponsor an event
  • Be interviewed on a podcast

The point is to make sure that every working day you are promoting your business.

Work on your business

Making the time to regularly work on your business when you are a CEO who is wearing multiple hats is difficult. In many ways, it is easier to set aside specific blocks of time (which is why I’m a big advocate for having CEO days) than to build the habit of having CEO time regularly. But The Great Lock In is all about being super intentional about achieving your goals and there is no better way to do that by making sure you make the time, every working day, to work on your business.

This doesn’t have to be the same thing every day. The point is to develop the habit, whether it be 30 minutes to an hour, where you do something that is working on your business rather than in your business.

You could:

  • Review your offer suite and/or pricing
  • Create a Q4 plan
  • Create a new offer
  • Document a process
  • Improve a system
  • Plan for a future hire
  • Delegate something
  • Create a financial forecast
  • Analyse profitability

That’s it! You know now how to do The Great Lock In: Business Owner’s Edition.

If you’ve seen any of the social media posts online about The Great Lock In you might have seen a whole list of things. However, trying to build multiple habits at the same time is difficult. I’ve kept The Great Lock In: Business Owner’s Edition to 3 ideas so it is manageable. Every working day, the aim is to

  1. Check your finances.
  2. Promote your business.
  3. Work on your business.

It’s easy enough to commit to and remember.

You can create a ‘Great Lock In’ time block in your calendar from now until the end of December and know you have to do those 3 things in that period of time. Bonus point is your place that time block at the start of your working day.

I really hope you’ve found this blog post helpful. If you have let me know over on Instagram or LinkedIn.

And if you decide to give this version of the Great Lock In a go, let me know.

And if you think there is something else that should be included, let me know too.

Developing those 3 habits will not only mean you end the year strong, but means you’ve developed fantastic habits that will put you in a great place moving forward.

I wish you all the best for the rest of the year, and for beyond that too.
