The marketing shifts you need to scale without limits

Want to know the marketing shifts you need to scale without limits? As a service provider moving into scaling mode is exciting. You create an uncapped scalable offer and can already imagine the sales pouring in and being able to make lots more money and help lots more people (without having to work 24/7). But the reality for many service providers who are scaling is that whilst they have a scalable offer, they don’t have scalable marketing to generate the sales to keeps sales pouring into that offer. Keep on reading to find out about the marketing shifts you need to scale without limits.

Marketing as a One-To-One Service Provider

As a one-to-one service provider and even if you started your scaling with capped scalable offers (like an intimate event, mastermind or small group programme) the likelihood is your marketing to date has been lead-generating marketing. What I mean by this is that your marketing is getting people to the point where they are interested in what you sell and will get in touch with you, but they would still have a conversation with you (whether in the DMs, very email or on a call) before they committed and bought.

This is fine when you are a one-to-one service provider, especially if you are selling high-ticket services or once clients sign up they work with you for an extended period of time. The reality for many service providers is they need anywhere between 10 – 100 sales per year to hit 100K. And even at the highest end of the scale (100) whilst manually closing 100 sales may sound like a lot, there are plenty of service providers who do that every year (and many have to close a lot less).

However, the problem with lead-generating marketing is that if you aren’t there to close sales, then sales are made. This makes it problematic for your business at any stage, but when you move into scaling mode it means that whilst you can have a scalable offer the reality is you can’t scale without limits. You are going to be limited by the amount of time you are able to dedicate to sales activities.

The other likelihood is that your marketing is heavily reliant on you. You might be networking, on social media or sending out an email newsletter. These are all forms of marketing where you are constantly having to ‘show up’. If you stop actively marketing your business then there is no marketing happening.

THE MARKETING SHIFTS YOU NEED TO SCALE WITHOUT LIMITS

To be clear if your marketing to date sounds like what I described above there is nothing wrong with that. Plenty of service providers are actively involved in their marketing and are closing sales. This type of marketing can get you to six-figures even multi-six figures depending on what the pricing of your offers.

But if you’ve created a scalable offer so you can scale without limits then you need marketing that can also scale without limits, and that is not the marketing I just described. You’ll need to think about marketing your business differently. Here are the marketing shifts you need to scale without limits.

Marketing Shift #1: Move from lead-generating marketing to sales-generating marketing

Rather than your marketing making people get in touch with you before buying, the aim is to ensure your marketing is able to make people buy without you being involved. For this to happen one of the key things you need to focus on is providing all the information someone needs to make an informed decision without talking to you.

All too often the reason why people want to talk to someone before they buy is because they have unanswered questions. They have questions that the marketing doesn’t answer, and so instead they’ll get in contact to have a conversation. To address this, it is your responsibility to think in advance about everything someone needs to know in order to buy and ensure that information is easily available.

You’ll want to especially think about:

1 – How do you allow people to know it is a good fit for them? If you’ve ever seen a sales page where it says this is for X and this is not for Y, this is a way of helping people to self-select whether something is or isn’t a good fit for them.

2 – How can you pre-handle objections? There will be some common sales objections (which if you’ve been having sales conversations you’ll likely be well aware of) but now, instead of waiting for someone to ask and then handle the objection, the goal is to pre-handle the objection. This is commonly done via a FAQ section on a sales page where you can include some of the common sales objections and then provide your answers.

Marketing Shift #2: Concentrate on marketing that has a longer life span so even if you are not actively marketing your business marketing is still happening

Removing yourself from the sales section of your marketing is just part of the marketing shift you need to scale without limits. Getting to the point where you can make sales in your business without you actively closing a sale is great. However, that alone won’t allow you to scale without limits. You’ll also want your marketing to not rely on you constantly having to show up. Most solopreneurs and micro service-based business owners have marketing that relies predominately on marketing with a short lifespan. They are posting on social media, where a post will be seen from a few hours to a week max or they are sending out an email newsletter, where the majority of reads are within the first few days. This means that even if they have a great sales page where people will buy instantly once on the sales page they have to constantly be creating new marketing to drive people to said sales pages.

Instead, you want to focus on marketing that has a longer life span. Ideally, you want marketing that you can create once and then will last for months or even years. This type of marketing means even if you have a period of time where you aren’t actively creating new marketing, sales can still be generated. Some examples of marketing with a longer life span would be long-form content that is optimsed for search and automated email sequences.

Why These Marketing Shifts Combined Will Mean You Can Scale Without Limits

By focusing on these two marketing shifts: moving from lead-generating to sales-generating marketing and focusing on marketing with a longer life what you are doing is ensuring that people can go through the entire buyer journey week in and week out, whether you are working or not.

By having longer life marketing for the awareness and engagement conversion part of the buyer journey this will mean even if you aren’t actively marketing your business people can still become aware of your business for the first time and then learn more about your business and offers. For example, you could be on holiday whilst someone does a search that takes them to a blog post or YouTube video that you created months ago. In that content you had a lead magnet, which they sign up for and then received an automated email sequence. This automated email sequence at some point will lead to a sales page where they buy your offer instantly. Someone has been able to become aware of your business, learn more about your business and offers, and go all the way through to buy a specific offer without you being involved. You can return from your holiday, open your inbox and smile as you see the emails from stripe about new sales.

To be clear, this doesn’t stop you from actively marketing your business on top. You can still do marketing with a shorter life span, but this become an addition rather than what you are relying on. You’ll know you have a solid foundation that is working 24/7, and you can add another layer of marketing on top of that.

What You’ll Need to Successfully Make These Marketing Shifts

By now, you know what you need to focus on. You need to concentrate on marketing your marketing sales-generating and on creating marketing that has a longer lifespan. The latter is the easier of the two shifts. You can decide to run ads, create long-form content that’s optimised for search, set up automated email sequences, make an automated webinar and more. It’s easy enough to understand the lifespan of different types of marketing. But the former, moving from lead-generating to sales-generating marketing, that’s harder to get right.

To successfully create sales-generating marketing, you’ll need to understand your business’ positioning, have a solid offer with a clear transformation and have a good knowledge of your ideal client or customer. You’ll need clear messaging that directly speaks to someone and makes them think, “this person is inside my head and this is perfect for me”, even though you don’t know who they are.

That is harder for untrained marketers. That doesn’t mean you can’t learn how to do it, but it isn’t something most people are born with. It’s a skill you develop and you develop it by learning more about marketing and getting help where necessary.

That’s it. You now know the marketing shifts you need to scale without limits.

When you combine a scalable offer without limits with marketing that can truly scale the sky really is the limit. There really will be no reasons that you can’t be making thousands, or tens of thousands of sales every year once you master being able to market your business at scale. Concentrating on making the marketing shifts mentioned will help you to do just that.
