3 Ways To Get Started With Affiliate Marketing

Have you heard about affiliate marketing and want to find out how to get started with affiliate marketing for yourself? Keep reading as I’m sharing 3 different ways that you can get started with affiliate marketing.

WHAT IS AFFILIATE MARKETING?

Affiliate marketing is where an affiliate receives a commission for every sale that is created as a result of them promoting a product or service of someone else.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF AFFILIATE MARKETING?

Affiliate marketing is a great way to make income without having to create your own product or offer a service. Some people decide to only do affiliate marketing. However, even if you have your own products and / or services

AMAZON AFFILIATE

An easy way to get started with affiliate marketing is to become an Amazon Affiliate. Unless you have been living under a rock you will have heard of Amazon. Given the range of products that Amazon sells it is likely no matter what industry you work in you are able to find some products that you can promote. For example, I started my affiliate journey with Amazon because of PropelHer’s Book Club. It made sense that if I was encouraging women around the world to buy a new book every month that I should make that link an affiliate link and receive a commission.

Becoming an Amazon Affiliate is fairly simple. If you based in the UK you can apply by clicking here. If you live someone else type in ‘Amazon Affiliate’ into Google and you should come up with the programme application form for your country.

Whilst it is fairly simple to join the commission is fairly low so it is unlikely to make you a millionaire overnight. However, it is a great way to get started, especially if you are already promoting products that can be bought via Amazon anyway.

SOFTWARE AS A SERVICE (SaaS)

Another way to start with affiliate marketing is to promote a Software as a Service (Saas). A SaaS is where you use a cloud-based service, that you access via a webpage or app, on an ongoing basis.

Do you have a SaaS that you use in your business that you love? Lots of SaaS companies now offer affiliate schemes. Simply type into Google ‘SAAS NAME + AFFILIATE PROGRAM’ and you can normally find out quite quickly if they have an affiliate scheme.

SaaS companies will often offer you anything up to 30% commission and some companies will give you the commission on an ongoing basis, which means if you are promoting a SaaS that people continue to use then you have the possibility of creating a recurring income stream.

OTHER PEOPLE’S COURSES

The next level of affiliate marketing is to market other people courses. This is very popular in the online marketing and business world. For example, every year Marie Forleo opens up her signature online business course (B-School) and a number of people will be an affiliate for her.

With this type of affiliate marketing, the process can be harder than when you are applying to Amazon or a Software as a Service company. The course owner is likely to have certain requirements from affiliates, but that information isn’t always shared.

In this situation you can earn commission of up to 50%. However, it is common practice, especially where there are multiple people being an affiliate for the same course that the affiliate will offer bonuses to try and entice someone to choose to book through them instead of someone else. Therefore, whilst the commission is good, your profit margin may be reduced because of the bonus.

That’s it! You have now seen 3 ways that you can get started with affiliate marketing.

I have personally tried all 3 and think affiliate marketing is a great way to add an additional income stream into your business.

I hope you have enjoyed this post. I would love to know in the comments below what type of affiliate marketing you would like to get into.
