6 WAYS TO UPGRADE YOUR ONLINE MARKETING TO ACHIEVE YOUR BUSINESS’ GROWTH GOALS

1. Elevate your brand

If you know your online marketing needs upgrading, a great place to start is with your brand. It is natural for brands to evolve, especially if you didn’t spend the time properly planning your brand in the first place. Given the impact your brand has on the rest of your marketing it makes sense to focus on upgrading your brand first.

A few elements to consider when upgrading your brand are: brand tone of voice, brand personality, palette, typography and imagery. You might have noticed I didn’t mention logo. Too many small business owners get fixated on a logo. They act as if it is THE most important part of a brand, but far from it.

Obviously if you have no logo or an awful logo you can get one created or improved. But focusing on the other areas of your brand are far more beneficial.

2. Create, or improve, your website

I know this is a controversial one and whilst there are some six-figure and multi six-figure business owners that rave about making that amount of money without having a website they are the exception rather than the rule.

Your business should have a website.

As part of growing your business it is likely that you’ll be increasing your visibility. You might be speaking on stages, being interviewed on podcasts, collaborating with other businesses, being mentioned in the press, winning awards etc. In all those scenarios you’ll want to be able to direct people to a central place for your business. A place where they can find out everything they need to about you and your business. A website.

If you’ve already got a website it can be useful to properly go through your current site. Often bits are added onto a website over time and it is easy to have information that is out-of-date or have parts of your website that aren’t consistent with other parts. Think about your current brand and the ideal client you need to attract for your business’ growth goals, and ensure the website is suitable.

3. Have a marketing strategy

If you are marketing your business without having a written down marketing strategy then don’t overlook this upgrade. If you want your business to grow – whether that be income growth, profit growth, impact growth – you’ll need to be strategic. Whilst you can absolutely make sales by winging your marketing, having a marketing strategy will help you to be as effective and efficient with your marketing, so will make it easier for you to achieve your business growth goals.

4. Create marketing assets

When most small businesses start using online marketing the focus is on short-term marketing – think social media and email newsletters. These are great for enabling you to try out different messaging and different content. You are able to quickly see what works and what doesn’t with minimal financial investment. But the downside is those types of marketing have a short lifespan and it means you have to keep on creating new marketing in order to keep generating sales.

A great way to upgrade your online marketing to match your business’ growth goals is to create marketing assets. This is marketing that is created with the intention of it being valuable for the business over the coming months or even years. There are numerous types of marketing this includes such as long-form content that optimised for search, automated email sequences, digital advertising, automated webinars.

You’d want to think about your business’ growth goals, have a clear sales forecast and then concentrate on creating marketing assets that will enable those sales targets to become a reality.

5. Take your email marketing to the next level with segmentation and automation

Sometimes upgrading your online marketing means adding something totally new, but sometimes it is about changing the way you are currently using a marketing channel. Email marketing is a great example of a channel that can be used in many ways. You can have a basic approach where you just send out an email newsletter to all of your subscribers. But you can also upgrade your email marketing by using segmentation and automation.

Segmentation involves splitting your email subscribers based information you have about them. You could segment based on how often they open your emails, how often they click through, what they’ve previously bought from you, what lead magnets they’ve downloaded, what they’ve clicked on in emails and so much more. Segmenting your email subscribers means you can then send more targeted emails. And more targeted emails equals better conversion and more sales.

Another way to upgrade your email marketing is with by using automation. This is where you create individual emails or a sequence of emails that are sent automatically when a subscriber does a specific action. Whereas with newsletters you are get in a circle of create, send, create, send with automated emails you can create once and then have it set up to send based on an action and so it can continue working for months or years.

6. Review and revise and your sales pages

To achieve your business growth goals, it’s likely you’ll want to have people buy without having any interaction with you or someone else from the business. Having to actively be involved in the sales process means there is a limit of the volume of sales that can be made. When purchases are made without an interaction with the business the limit is based in capacity (of the offer orif the software has a limit).

Therefore it is vital you have sales pages that can sell all by itself. Reviewing and revising your sales page will help to improve conversion. You’ll want to consider all four buyer types as ensure you have tailored the page so all four buyer types can get what they need.

That’s it. You now know 6 ways to upgrade your online marketing to achieve your business’ growth goal.
