8 WAYS TO MAKE MORE SALES FROM LESS CONTENT
1. Prioritise evergreen content
Not all content is created equal. Some content is valuable for a longer period of time than others. When considering the length of time a piece of content is valuable there are three types of content: timely, seasonal and evergreen.
Timely content is valuable when it is published and usually for a limited period of time afterwards. Seasonal content is valuable for a certain period of time every year. Evergreen content is valuable all year round. If you want to make more sales from less content then you’ll want to focus on evergreen content. Given that evergreen content is valuable at the time of being published, but also for months or even years afterwards it offers the ability generate more sales in the long-term than a piece of timely or seasonal content can.
2. Create SEO (search engine optimised) content
When you think about it logically there are a number of ways to make more sales from less content. You need the content to be better so that you make more sales percentage wise based on the number of people who consume the content, or you want more people to be able to consume a piece of content. Creating SEO content will help with the latter.
When a piece of content is optimised for search it means that it will often be consumed months and even years after being originally published. When the SEO content has been created strategically that can mean it is helping you to generate sales months and even years after originally being published.
For example, in my business, I run strategy days where I help business owners create a plan for the upcoming ‘year’. Over the years, I have created numerous blog posts that are optimised for search, that are around the topic of annual planning, and that naturally lead people to sign up for my strategy days.
Here are some of those blog posts:
- How to Use Annual Planning to Increase Your Business’ Income
- Why Annual Planning Helps Small Business Owners to Take More Holiday
- Annual Business Planning: 5 Steps to Plan for a New Year
- How to plan your year for great results and maximum enjoyment
- How to structure your annual CEO Day
As you can see I’ve gone for slightly different angles with the blog post, because people may have different wants (to increase income, to have more time off, to get more enjoyment out of their business) and I know annual planning will help with all of that. You’ll need to do the same. Think about the different ways your offer can help someone solve their want or need.
3. Optimise for conversion, not engagement
If your aim is to create less content whilst still making more sales, then you’ll want to focus on how your content is converting. It is really easy to get sidetracked and focus on engagement. Given the way social media works, it’s easy to accidentally pay more attention to the number of likes, comments and shares a post is getting than the number of sales it is generating. But if you want to be able to reduce the amount of content you create whilst still making more sales, then you need your sales posts to convert higher. That means analysing what makes people buy and then optimising your content for conversion is key.

4. Create for less marketing channels and platforms
For every additional marketing channel or platform you use, you’ll have to be creating content. It is very common in an effort to maximise sales to think that your business needs to be everywhere. All of a sudden you’re trying to create content for numerous marketing channels and platforms – and let’s be honest, it’s a lot.
When selecting the right amount of marketing channels and platforms needed for sales, there absolutely is a sweet spot. If you don’t have enough, your business will suffer. If you have too many, you’ll giving yourself too much to do and your sales won’t necessarily benefit from all that extra work.
To find your sweet spot the key is to think about the buyer journey. You want to ensure your mix of marketing channels and platforms allows people to be able to complete the whole buyer journey. Ideally, you’ll want it to be possible for someone to complete the buyer journey with social media being involved and without social media being involved.
5. Build funnels
A great way to make more sales from less content is by having very clear funnels set up for your business. A very simple funnel would be as follows:
Piece of marketing → Lead magnet → Nurture Sequence → Sales Page. The beauty of this type of funnel is that once you’ve set up your lead magnet, nurture sequence and sales page, it will require minimal involvement. You’ll want to review from time to time to see if you can optimise to improve your conversion rate, but even then, it will just be tweaks. Instead, your focus will be just on driving people to the lead magnet. And once you have one or a few lead magnets, you’ll find yourself in a position where you are able to generate more sales purely because you are making the most of opportunities.
For example, if you are someone who guests on other people’s podcasts, delivers trainings, speaks on stages or does joint lives on social media previously if you weren’t able to actively sell then in many cases those appearance would have ended up in minimal sales. Whereas, once you have a lead magnet, you’ll find yourself being able to mention that, get more people signing up for the lead magnet and then a percentage going all the way through to buy.
When thinking about ‘content’ it is easy to think about the content you are making for your marketing platforms and channels, but it is also important to think about the content you are creating for other people’s marketing platforms and channels, and having the right lead magnet and funnel can enable you to be able to make more sales from the content you are creating with, or for, others.
And, of course, the nature of funnels means you are able to do proper analysis. You can do A/B testing and you can review your conversion rates. It puts you in a great place to optimise for conversion and keep that rate going up and up.

6. Email automation
Using automation can be a great way to make more sales from less content. An area of automation that all businesses should properly look into and use is email automation. Email automation is great for a number of reasons. Firstly, it is a form of marketing that you can create once and then runs for months or years. This is different to sending out email newsletters where you have to create something new each time you want to send a newsletter out. Secondly, because automated email sequences start based off a specific action it means you can be targeted with your messaging, which will support higher conversion rates. Email automations can be used in a number of ways. It could be that you set up a sequence that follows someone signing up for a lead magnet. You can also use them if someone takes a specific action in a newsletter. And you can use them to follow up a specific purchase. There are lots of opportunities, either to generate a first sales or encourage repeat purchases from your business.
7. Reuse content
A very simple way to make more sales from less content is to reuse a piece of content. Especially with social media many business owners feel the pressure to be constantly creating new content, but you don’t have to. Given the small number of people who will see a social media post (even being super generous 10% of your followers aren’t going to see a post) and given that most people aren’t really paying that much attention you can absolutely post the same piece of content multiple times without worrying.
Now given the focus is on making more sales from less content you’ll want to focus on reusing the content that has generated sales the first time round. And there are two key ways to consider reusing content. The first is that for seasonal content you can reuse it the same time next year. The second is that for evergreen content you can reuse it after a certain number of months.
8. Paid Ads
If right now all of your online marketing is organic, aka free, marketing then it might be time to consider running paid ads. With marketing there will always be an investment. If you decide to go the organic route you are investing time. If you decided to run paid ads you’ll be investing money. If you have the money to invest then it makes a lot of sense to run paid ads. With a paid ad you could create an advert that includes a visual asset (video, image etc) and a caption once and it could run for months without any changes. Whereas with organic content you can find yourself having to be creating new content multipls times a week with a paid advert you want to create the best possible advert and then let it run.
That’s it! You now know 8 ways to make more sales from less content.
As you can see, it is possible to create less content and still make more sales. In order for this to happen you need to be strategic about the content you are creating and ensure that you focus on optimising your content so that it is making the most sales possible.
