30 Day Instagram Reel Challenge Review

On the 1st August 2023 I decided to try a 30-day Instagram Reel Challenge. Although I had been creating Instagram Reels on my Instagram account (@charellegriffith) I had got to the point where I would only post Reels occasionally. They definitely weren’t a format that I posted every week. So I decided to challenge myself. My follower growth on the platform was stagnant and honestly, I was getting a bit bored of Instagram. I thought a 30-day Instagram Reel Challenge might re-energise my account and my love for the platform. Keep on reading to find out how my 30-day Instagram Reel Challenge went.

30-DAY INSTAGRAM REEL CHALLENGE: THE REVIEW

My use of Instagram before the 30-day Instagram Reel challenge

I have been using Instagram for years and class myself as an active user of the platform. I post every day. Usually, I go live on Mondays, I will post a graphic about my latest blog post on Wednesdays, and the other 5 posts will be a mixture of static images, static graphics, carousels and Reels. In addition, I also usually post multiple stories per day from Monday to Thursday.

Why I decided to do a 30-day Instagram Reel challenge

For years I loved Instagram and it was my favourite social media platform. However, in late 2022 I was part of the UK’s first LinkedIn Creator Accelerator Programme. From that moment onwards my love of LinkedIn grew and my love for Instagram faded.

In addition, it’s no secret that growing your audience on Instagram is harder today than back in the good old days, but the two formats that people currently recommend for growing your audience are carousels and Reels.

Given both things, I decided I would do a 30-day Instagram Reel challenge and hopefully grow my audience and re-ignite my love for the platform at the same time.

Reflections on my 30-day Instagram Reel challenge

Monitor whether your Reels are being shown to followers or non-followers

One of the reasons why Instagram Reels are a great growth tool is because they usually get shown to a large percentage of non-followers. In the beginning, I could see that my Reels were reaching more non-followers than followers. Knowing this is important because the Reel you’ll make to for someone who has never come across your business before is different to someone who is familiar with your business.

What I noticed over time was that the ratio changed and whilst in the beginning most Reels were being shown to non-followers throughout the month that changed and I had Reels that were shown to more of my followers.

Posting an Instagram Reel every day isn’t that difficult

I know the thought of posting an Instagram Reel every day is daunting for some but honestly it isn’t that difficult. Now I did this challenge in August when my business is slower so I had some extra time. But the main thing is finding your way of making Reels. For this challenge I didn’t actually batch that much (which is unusual for me). However, I would save Reels that I wanted to recreate based on either the structure of the Reel or the sound. I also went back through some of my old content and thought about how I could turn it into a Reel.

My future with Instagram Reels

By the end of the 30-day Instagram Reel challenge I was ready for it to be over. Whilst I love the creativity of Reels the fact is you have to keep Reels pretty simple and have the goodies in the caption. But then you know when people are scrolling through Reels they aren’t really reading your caption.

Doing the challenge has definitely reminded me the enjoyment I find in creating Reels and I’m sure they’ll make a more regular appearance in my future content than they did before the challenge.

That’s it! You now know all about my 30-day Instagram Reel challenge

Whilst the 30-day Instagram Reel challenge did not end up with my account blowing up I’m still glad I gave it a go.

If you never try you’ll never know and going forward I’ll be including more Reels in my content, but am excited to get back to only posting once a day and having a mixture of formats.
